Breast cancer is something women think they know all about: Look for lumps; have mammograms; see our doctors. But none of that will save you from one silent breast cancer killer that women know virtually nothing about. It’s called “inflammatory breast cancer,” and it’s something every woman must know about.

My friend is 27 and was just diagnosed in January. She is now 8 months along and undergoing chemo. She has to have a double masectomy and hysterectomy after the baby is born in a few weeks She will then undergo radiation as well. Sadly, this is what had to happen for us to learn about IBC. I can’t comprehend why more information isn given to women on this terrible type of cancer.

I was on the jury for a malpractice suit over 20 years ago, because the doctor didn’t diagnose the IBC. I cannot believe it’s still not widely known today. Good video. Good info.

It should also be noted that IBC closely resembles eczema. I had a strange looking “mark” come up on my breast recently and my Dr. was concerned that I had IBC. This is a very aggressive form of cancer and is also very rare. If you even suspect that you have this get to your Dr. right away and get checked. Do research also on IBC, eczema, and Paget’s Disease of the nipple.

it is extremely important for every woman to know about IBC. being the rarest form of breast cancer, it is often neglected as a diagnosis.Recently i have done preliminary research into why IBC is caused (wether it is genetic, environmental, etc.) and it really opened up my eyes to the problems which women face. Thanks for posting. It really does make a difference.

My mother doesn’t have IBC but she has breast cancer and it has spread to many places in her body. She’ll be on chemo the rest of her life, its tough. I wish you, your Mothers, and your families the best and I will keep you all in my prayers. Be positive, and enjoy your time together. Be sure to say I Love You everyday, even if thats the only thing you call to say.

This is a very serious, mostly misdiagnosed disease. My beautiful sister in law is in the last stages of the disease, and was diagnosed less than a year ago. Fight, kick and scream. Make sure someone listens to you if you are having these symptoms!

My mom died june 18 2001 after being diagnosed with stage 4 IBC. She was 58. IBC victims are much more likely to die than “lump” type breast cancers. What I would recommend to anyone diagnosed with an “infection or mastitis” is to get a second opinion -quickly. It is beatable if caught early and attacked aggressively. Do not allow substandard treatment. This is life or death for you and your family, do not be afraid of hurting feelings.

My mother was diagnosed two days ago. They are waiting a week to do the PET scan and it’s driving me crazy. She has been showing symptoms for over a month now and the doctors kept putting her on antibiotics or saying it was “probably post traumatic stress” (she went through chemo and radiation for a different type of breast cancer earlier this year). i am worried for my mom. it’s good to read so many other people’s stories, even though many of them end in death. thank you for posting this.

I agree as well…
Is there more in statistics or are we speaking out more…mine has been found to
be more random rather than through the family blood…I did a testing. Medical science doesn’t gaurantee that but to their knowledge that is the result. So…Enviromental?
